The House of Sa'd b. Abu Waqqas

Sa'd b. Abu Waqqas, a great companion from the Zuhra clan of the Quraysh tribe, was the nephew of the Prophet Muhammad. He is one of the first to embrace Islam, particularly among the prominent members of the ten who were given glad tidings of Paradise. Sa'd b. Abu Waqqas was known as an extremely skilled archer during the time of the Prophet. In one battle, the Prophet said to Sa'd: "Shoot, Sa'd! May my mother and father be sacrificed for you!" This statement reflects the Prophet's special love and trust in Sa'd. Sa'd took on significant responsibilities during the caliphate of Umar, commanding the army in the conquest of Iran. He led the army to a heavy defeat of the Sassanian Empire in the Battle of Qadisiyyah (15 AH/636 AD). He then conquered Madain (Ctesiphon) and founded the city of Kufa. After settling in Medina, Sa'd spent the last years of his life largely there; he passed away at the age of about 80 in his estate in Akik in 55 AH (675 AD) and was buried in Jannat al-Baqi after being moved to Medina.
