The House of Hz. Hafsa

Hz. Hafsa bint Ömer b. el-Hattâb is the daughter of Hz. Ömer and the wife of the Prophet Muhammad. After the death of her first husband, Huneys b. Huzâfe, in the Battle of Badr or Uhud, Hz. Hafsa became a widow and married the Prophet Muhammad in the 3rd year of Hijra (625 AD). One of the most important features of Hz. Hafsa is that the first compilation of the Quran was entrusted to her. After the death of the Prophet Muhammad, Hz. Abu Bakr compiled the mushaf and handed it over to Hz. Ömer; when Hz. Ömer passed away, the mushaf went to his daughter Hz. Hafsa. During the time of Hz. Osman, the official mushaf was copied using the mushaf in the possession of Hz. Hafsa as the primary source. Hz. Hafsa lived in her house adjacent to the Prophet's Mosque alongside the other wives of the Prophet Muhammad. She passed away in Medina in the year 45 AH (665 AD) after the death of the Prophet and was buried in Jannat al-Baqi.
