The House of Hz. Safiyye

Hz. Safiyye bint Huyey b. Ahtab (d. around 50/670) is the daughter of Huyey b. Ahtab, the chief of the Banu Nadir Jewish tribe. She was likely born in Medina around 1 AH. After the Battle of Khaybar, she was freed by the Prophet Muhammad and converted to Islam. The Prophet offered her the choice to either return to her family or marry him as a Muslim. Hz. Safiyye chose Islam and married the Prophet. Their wedding took place in the region of Sebe upon their return from Khaybar. It is reported that after Hz. Safiyye's conversion to Islam, she faced some difficulties due to her Jewish roots in Medina. The Prophet Muhammad protected and supported her each time. Hz. Safiyye remained a loyal wife until the death of the Prophet; she lived in Medina until the time of Hz. Umar.
