The House of Abdullah b. Umar

Abdullah b. Umar (d. 73/692) is the son of Umar. He accepted Islam at a young age; he applied to participate in the Battle of Uhud at the age of thirteen but was sent back by the Prophet Muhammad due to his young age and was able to fight in the Battle of the Trench. Throughout his life, Abdullah b. Umar tried to emulate the Prophet Muhammad. He meticulously imitated every action of the Prophet, every place he visited, and every location he prayed at. If the Prophet prayed in a certain place, Abdullah would go there and pray at the same spot; if the Prophet rested under a tree, he would take care to water that tree. Having narrated approximately 2,630 hadiths from the Prophet Muhammad, Abdullah b. Umar ranks second among the companions who narrated the most hadiths. During times of great political turmoil, Abdullah avoided taking sides and did not play an active role in the events of Karbala; however, he maintained his deep devotion to the Prophet throughout his life.
