The Homeland of Abu Huraira - His Tribe

Abu Huraira, Abdurrahman b. Sahr ad-Dawsi, belongs to the Devs branch of the Ezd tribe in Yemen. Although there is no definite information about his date of birth, it is reported that he became a Muslim during the conquest of Khaybar in 7 AH (628-29 CE). After becoming a Muslim, Abu Huraira came to Medina and never left the Prophet's side. He stayed among the Companions of Suffa for about three years. During this time, instead of engaging in trade or agriculture, he devoted all his time to being with the Prophet; he was dedicated to memorizing his words verbatim and conveying them to others. Abu Huraira narrated 5,374 hadiths from the Prophet, surpassing all other companions in this regard. The narrations of Abu Huraira hold a significantly larger place in Bukhari and Muslim compared to other companions. When some companions expressed astonishment at how many hadiths he narrated, Abu Huraira would say: "While you were busy with your fields, your possessions, and your families, I never left the side of the Prophet." The Prophet prayed for him for his sharp memory: "O Allah! Grant him memory." It is reported that after this, Abu Huraira gained a very strong memorization ability. Abu Huraira served as the governor of Bahrain during the time of Umar. During the time of Muawiya, he largely resided in Medina. He passed away in Medina at the age of approximately 78 in 58 AH (678 CE) and was buried in Jannat al-Baqi.
