The El-Fakir Well; The House of Salman al-Farsi and the Date Palm Grove (The place where our Prophet planted 300 date saplings to free him)

Salman al-Farsi came from Iran and after years of living as a slave, he met the Prophet in Medina. Salman, who was a slave of a Jew, set a very heavy price for his freedom: His master asked him to plant 300 date saplings and pay 40 uqiyyah of gold. The Prophet said to Salman: "Make an agreement with your master." The contract was made. Then the Prophet told the companions to gather the saplings; the companions contributed three or four saplings each, and 300 saplings were collected. Regarding who would plant the saplings, the Prophet said: "O Salman! Dig the holes, and leave the planting to us." The Prophet personally planted all 300 date saplings; it is reported that all of them bore fruit that year. Thus, Salman paid off his debt with the saplings; for the gold debt, a piece of gold the size of an egg, which was brought from the unseen, fully covered this amount. Thus, Salman attained his freedom both with the saplings and this miraculous gold. This area where the date grove is located and the surrounding El-Fakir Well is one of the most important memorial sites of Salman al-Farsi in Medina.
