Mount Sevr (Medina Haram Boundary)

Medina is located within a sacred geographical area centered around the Prophet's Mosque, known as 'Haram-i Medina' or 'Haram-i Nabi'. The boundaries of this haram were defined by the Prophet Muhammad. The Prophet Muhammad delineated the boundaries of the Medina haram as follows: "Medina has been declared a haram for the area between Âir and Sevr." Here, 'Âir' refers to the mountain of Âir to the south of Medina, while 'Sevr' indicates a small hill to the north. However, it should not be confused with the famous Mount Sevr in Mecca; the Sevr near Medina is a much smaller geographical feature. Hunting of animals, cutting down trees, and carrying weapons within the Medina haram have been prohibited by the Prophet Muhammad. Showing respect for the Medina haram is one of the issues that the Prophet Muhammad particularly emphasized.
