House of Utban b. Malik

Utbân b. Mâlik al-Khazrajî was a prominent Companion from the Ansar of Medina. Experiencing vision problems, Utbân expressed to the Prophet Muhammad that he had difficulty going to his tribe's mosque during the rainy season and said: "O Messenger of Allah! I cannot attend the prayers held in my tribe's mosque due to rain and floods; I ask you to designate a place in my home where I can pray." The Prophet accepted this request; one day he came to Utbân's house and declared the place where he prayed inside as a mosque for him. This narration has led to discussions in Islamic jurisprudence about the concept of "home mosque": it has been reinforced by this example, where the religion legitimizes praying at home under certain conditions and allocating a small prayer corner in the house. This hadith also demonstrates how sensitive the Prophet Muhammad was to the individual needs of his Companions. [Source: "Utbân b.
