Zil Merve

Zülmerve is the name of a location or piece of land near Medina. This site became historically significant due to the property dispute between Hz. Hussein b. Ali and Waleed b. Utbah b. Abi Sufyan, the governor of Medina and nephew of Muawiya during the Umayyad caliphate. During the caliphate of Muawiya (H. 41-60 / M. 661-680), property disputes in the most fertile land areas of Medina came to the forefront. In the dispute over Zülmerve, Waleed exerted pressure on Hz. Hussein using his authority as governor. According to reports, Hz. Hussein's stance was extremely honorable and resolute; he defended his rights with strong arguments, and Muawiya personally intervened, leaving the land to Hz. Hussein instead of Waleed. This issue has gone down in history as a concrete reflection of the tension between the Ahl al-Bayt and the Umayyads during the early Islamic period.
