Hz. Khalid ibn al-Walid and the Route of the Polytheist Cavalry's Attack

Khalid ibn al-Walid (d. 21/642) is one of the greatest commanders of Islam; however, he was not yet a Muslim during the Battle of Uhud and was part of the Quraysh ranks. Commanding the cavalry unit at Uhud, Khalid had attempted several times to reach the Muslims' rear by passing through the left flank of the Archers' Hill; each time he was repelled by the archers on the hill. Taking advantage of the moment when the vast majority of the archers left the hill for the spoils, Khalid, along with Ikrimah ibn Abu Jahl, advanced rapidly along the Valley of Kanat, passed through the Ayneyn Pass, and encircled the Muslim army from behind. With this sudden raid, the Muslims found themselves caught between two fires; many companions, including the Prophet Muhammad, were injured in the chaos and panic; 70 martyrs were reported. Khalid ibn al-Walid later converted to Islam in the 8th year of Hijra (629 AD) and went down in history with the title "Seyfullāh" (Sword of Allah). He played a key role in the conquest of the Peninsula, the Ridda wars, and the spread of Islam to Syria and Iraq. The Prophet Muhammad received the news of his conversion with deep joy.
