History

The 67th verse of Surah Al-Ma'idah was revealed while the Prophet Muhammad was in the room of Umm Salamah. The verse is as follows: "O Messenger! Proclaim what has been revealed to you from your Lord. If you do not do it, you have not conveyed His message. Allah will protect you from people. Indeed, Allah does not guide the disbelieving people." (Al-Ma'idah 5/67) The revelation of this verse marks one of the most critical moments of the Prophet Muhammad's mission. The verse may indicate the existence of concerns and doubts about the postponement of the announcement of certain information or rulings. In this verse, Allah gives a clear command to the Prophet Muhammad; by saying, "Proclaim everything that has been revealed to you from your Lord" and assuring him with the words, "Allah will protect you from people." The revelation of this verse in the room of Umm Salamah shows that her chamber in Medina hosted critical moments of the life of the Prophet Muhammad.
