Tomb of Sultan III. Mustafa (One of the tombs with the footprint of our Prophet)

Kadem-i Şerif (مبارك ayak izi) means the blessed footprint attributed to the Prophet Muhammad. These footprints, found on stone or brick surfaces and also referred to as "nakş-ı kadem-i saâdet", have become part of the miracles of some prophets; the footprints they left on stone have gained religious significance. Examples of the footprints attributed to the Prophet Muhammad can be found in various places around the world. These footprints are preserved in tombs and museums in different geographies, primarily in Jerusalem, Medina, and Istanbul. Special boxes, silver cases, and tombs have been constructed for these footprints. Sultan III. Mustafa (1757-1774) is referred to by this title as he is either the founder of one of the tombs that houses these kadem-i şerifs or as the person under whom such a kadem-i şerif was found. Adnan Şensoy's explanation indicates that this tomb is one of the "tombs with the footprint of our Prophet." Kadem-i şerifs are concrete indicators of the tradition of blessing and visitation in the history of Islamic art. The practice of reverence and visitation that develops around these objects is an expression of the love for the Prophet Muhammad that has lasted for generations.
