Bani Hatme Cemetery and Homeland

Bani Hatme is one of the branches of the Aws tribe in Medina. They settled in the southern part of Medina, near the Kuba region. The Aws tribe, along with the Khazraj, forms one of the two main Arab tribes of Medina and was among the first to accept Islam with the arrival of the Prophet Muhammad. In the pre-Islamic period, there were bloody conflicts between the Aws and Khazraj tribes that lasted for many years. The largest of these wars was the Battle of Buas (around 617 AD). In the Battle of Buas, the Aws tribe, including Bani Hatme, suffered great losses; while the wounds of this war were still fresh, the Prophet Muhammad arrived in Medina. The reconciliation of the Aws and Khazraj by Islam and the formation of the "Ansar" unity by these two tribes was one of the most critical developments after the Hijra. Among the companions belonging to Bani Hatme is the poet Ka'b b. Malik; Ka'b b. Malik is one of the three companions who remained behind during the Battle of Tabuk and were honored with the Prophet's forgiveness. The cemetery in the region represents the historical graveyard where the members of Bani Hatme were buried.
