The Tomb and Headquarters of Abu Basir

Abu Basir Utba b. Asid b. Jariyah al-Sakafi (d. 6/628) is a companion from the Quraysh ally Banu Zuhra. After converting to Islam, he fled from Mecca and sought refuge in Medina just before the signing of the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah. According to one of the most controversial articles of the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah (6 AH/628 AD), individuals who fled from Mecca as Muslims would not be retained in Medina and would be returned. Before the ink of the treaty dried, the Meccans sent an envoy for Abu Basir; the Prophet Muhammad had to surrender him as per the treaty. However, Abu Basir killed one of the Quraysh envoys on the way and returned to Medina. When the Prophet Muhammad was about to send him back as per the treaty, Abu Basir settled in the coastal area, along the Quraysh caravan route, instead of Medina. In a short time, fleeing Muslims gathered around him, and their number exceeded 70. They began to attack Quraysh caravans; the Meccans, distressed by this situation, requested the Prophet Muhammad to bring this group to Medina.
