History

Besir b. Akrabe al-Ensari was a small child who lost his father as a martyr in the Battle of Uhud (H. 3/M. 625). The Prophet encountered the crying young Besir while returning from Uhud. The Messenger of Allah spoke to him in an extremely compassionate manner: "Don't cry! Wouldn't I want to be your father, and Hz. Aisha your mother?" Besir gladly accepted this offer. Upon this, the Prophet took him in his arms or stroked his head with his hand and comforted him. This scene is a concrete reflection of the deep compassion the Prophet had for orphaned children. The Messenger himself had grown up as an orphan; therefore, he understood the pain of orphaned children more deeply and showed them special attention.
