History

The Prophet Muhammad placed great importance on the prayer recited before sleeping and taught this prayer to his companions. According to narration, the Prophet said: "When you go to bed, recite this prayer: 'O Allah! I have submitted my soul to You, turned my face to You, entrusted my affairs to You, and leaned my back against You. I am in hope of Your mercy and in fear of Your punishment. The only escape and refuge is to turn to You. O Allah! I believe in the book You have revealed and the prophet You have sent.' If you die that night, you will die in this state." After teaching this prayer to his companions, the Prophet advised: "Do not say anything else after this; ensure that this prayer is the last thing you say." This narration reveals the Prophet Muhammad's understanding of life, which evaluates every moment as an act of worship. Even sleep is approached with a sense of reliance and submission; a person remains in a state dedicated to Allah even while sleeping.
