The Memory of Umayr b. Wahb

Umayr b. Wahb al-Jumahi was in great remorse in the atmosphere of sadness in Mecca after the Battle of Badr; his son Wahb had been captured in Badr. Meeting with Safwan b. Umayya at the location of Hacun, Umayr said: "My only sorrow at the moment is my son who was captured and my heavy debts." Safwan replied: "Your debts are on me; you go kill Muhammad, and I will take your son without paying a ransom. Don't tell anyone this." Umayr came to Medina with his sword dipped in poison. The Prophet learned of the situation through Gabriel; when Umayr was admitted, the Prophet asked, "What have you come for?" Umayr replied, "I came for my son who is a prisoner." The Prophet then asked, "What did you discuss with Safwan at Hacun?" and Umayr was astonished and entered Islam.
