The grave of Hz. Hanzala b. Ebu Amir (GasilulMelaike)

Hanzala b. Ebî Âmir el-Ensârî (d. 3/625) is from the Beni Amr b. Avf branch of the Aws tribe. His father, Ebû Âmir, was considered a religious figure during the Age of Ignorance and leaned towards Christianity. When the Prophet Muhammad migrated to Medina, Ebû Âmir opposed him and went to Mecca; he also fought on the side of the polytheists at Uhud. His son Hanzala, on the other hand, took the opposite path and embraced Islam. On the night of the Battle of Uhud, Hanzala was newly married. When the war broke out, he rushed to the front lines despite being in a state of ritual impurity. He showed great heroism in the battle; he reached Ebû Süfyân but was martyred by Şeddâd b. Esved. After the battle, the Prophet Muhammad said: "I saw one of your companions being washed by angels; inquire to learn more." Hanzala's wife explained that her husband was in a state of ritual impurity, that he got out of bed upon hearing the battle cries, and that he left without completing his ablution.
