The grave of Hz. Abbas b. Ubade

Abbas b. Ubade b. Nadle el-Ensârî el-Hazrecî (d. 3/624) is one of the twelve Medinans who pledged allegiance to the Prophet Muhammad in the first Aqabah pledge. He was also present at the Second Aqabah and made an unforgettable speech on that historic night. On the night of the Second Aqabah Pledge (H. 1 before, Zilhicce), during the historic meeting between the Medinan delegation and the Prophet Muhammad, Abbas b. Ubade stood up and addressed the Hazreç people: "O Hazrec community! Are you aware of what this man brings to you? You will pledge allegiance to him. This means fighting against both Arabs and non-Arabs. If you are afraid that trouble will come upon you, then leave him now; for this is an oath that has a price in this world and the Hereafter. But if you believe you can overcome these challenges, then take him; Allah will give you the best reward in this world and the Hereafter." The Hazreç people pledged allegiance in unison, saying, "We accept, O Messenger of Allah!" Abbas b. Ubade was martyred in the Battle of Badr (H. 2/M. 624) among the Muslims. Thus, he earned the honor of being both a witness to Aqabah and a companion who was martyred in the first great victory of Islam.
