MapHistory
The Prophet Muhammad's grandchildren, Hasan ibn Ali and Husayn ibn Ali, were among the most beloved and special individuals to him. Hasan and Husayn were the sons of Fatimah and Ali; thus, they were considered the Prophet's grandchildren through his daughter and his nephews through his son-in-law Ali. Narrations indicate that the Prophet had an extremely warm and sincere relationship with these two grandchildren. It is narrated that he would carry them on his shoulders, allow them to climb on him while he was in prostration during prayer, and even did not immediately rise from prostration for fear of interrupting their play. In one narration, it is mentioned that while the Prophet was carrying Hasan and Husayn on his shoulders, he encountered a group from the Ansar and said to them, "Look at these two! What beautiful mounts you have!" to which the children replied, "Our mount is beautiful too!" This scene illustrates the innocence of the grandchildren and the warmth of the relationship the Prophet maintained with them. The Prophet prayed for Hasan, saying: "O Allah! I love him, so love him too, and place love in the hearts of those who love him." For Husayn, he said, "Husayn is from me, and I am from Husayn. O Allah, love those who love Husayn."
