Sultan Abdulmecid Han Minaret

The first minaret of the Prophet's Mosque was built during the reign of the Umayyad Caliph Walid b. Abd al-Malik (H. 88-91 / A.D. 706-709). Over time, the minarets have been repaired and renovated in various periods. Sultan Abdulmecid Han (1839-1861) carried out the most comprehensive Ottoman renovation work on the Prophet's Mosque. This work, which lasted from H. 1265-1277 (A.D. 1849-1861), completely rebuilt the mosque in the neo-Umayyad style. During this period, the minarets were also rebuilt and began to be referred to by the name of Sultan Abdulmecid. The "Bab al-Salam minaret, built by Muhammad b. Qalawun in 706," mentioned in the description, belongs to the Mamluk period; it was renovated by IV. Mehmed.
