Suleiman the Magnificent Minaret

Suleiman the Magnificent (1520-1566) is the sultan symbolizing the most powerful period of the Ottoman Empire. Known as the 'Servant of the Two Qiblas', Suleiman showed great interest in Mecca and Medina and made various architectural contributions to the Prophet's Mosque. Some of the minarets in the Prophet's Mosque were renovated or rebuilt during Suleiman's reign. According to the information mentioned, some minarets built during the Mamluk period underwent extensive repairs during the Ottoman period. The minaret bearing Suleiman's name is one of the most important examples of this repair tradition. Suleiman also donated his famous marble pulpit to the Sacred Mosque in 1558; this is a concrete indication of his value for the Harameyn.
