Sukya Well

Sukya Well is a historical water source located outside Medina, along the route of the Battle of Badr. According to sources, the Prophet Muhammad camped his army next to this well while going to the Battle of Badr (2 AH/624 CE) and personally distributed water to the soldiers. For this reason, the place has been referred to as "Sukya" (water giving, irrigation), and the mosque here later took the same name. The Sukya Mosque was built to commemorate the Prophet Muhammad's special stop before the Battle of Badr. There are also reports that the Prophet Muhammad occasionally prayed and made supplications at this place. This site constitutes one of the important historical places documenting the route of the Prophet Muhammad's battles and expeditions outside Medina. The Battle of Badr is one of the most critical turning points in Islamic history. In this battle, Muslims achieved a great victory against the Quraysh army, which was three times larger in number. The scene of the Prophet Muhammad camping his army at Sukya and meeting their water needs on the way to the battle is a concrete reflection of his leadership style and understanding of military organization.
