Gars Well

Gars Well is one of the most sacred and significant wells related to the Prophet Muhammad in Medina. The well, notable for its location in the fertile oasis around Kuba, has a historical structure made of black basalt stones. When the Prophet Muhammad migrated to Medina, the first water offered to him was taken from Gars Well. The water was soft and delicious; the Prophet benefited from this well both as drinking water and for ablution. According to narrations, the Prophet spat his blessed saliva into the well and poured honey into it; thus, its water became more blessed and the well did not dry up. The Prophet said about this well: 'This is a well from the springs of Paradise.' This good news made the well one of the most sacred water sources in Medina. The most significant event is the Prophet's last will: Near his death, he bequeathed to his companions, 'When I die, wash me with the water of Gars Well.' This will was fulfilled; Hz. Ali and other close companions washed the Prophet with water taken from Gars Well. This event demonstrates the profound spiritual significance of the well. Today, the well has been restored, surrounded by iron fences, and covered.
