Muzahim Market, one of the markets of Medina before our Prophet (under the control of Ibn Selul)

In the pre-Islamic period, there were four major market areas in Medina. Among them, the Muzahim Market was located in the western part of the city, near the fortress of Abdullah b. Ubayy b. Selul, who is known in history as the leader of the hypocrites. In the sources, the name of this market is associated with its proximity to Ibn Hubeyn Street, which is also referred to as "the road of Abdullah b. Ubayy." Although there are different opinions about the origin of the name Muzahim, it is thought that the name is based on a family or geographical feature that is identified with this region. The market has become one of the focal points of political struggles in Medina, especially due to its location within the dominion of the Khazraj tribe and its close relationship with Abdullah b. Ubayy. When the Prophet Muhammad migrated to Medina, he also visited this market. After touring all the existing markets in Medina, the Messenger of Allah determined that these areas dominated by polytheist and Jewish merchants were not suitable for Muslims and established a new market in Baqi' al-Zubayr. In this new market established by the Prophet, the principle of not collecting taxes and fees, ensuring a free competition environment, and putting an end to fraudulent trade practices was adopted. Abdullah b. Ubayy is known as the head of the hypocrites who exhibited passive resistance against the Prophet and Islam.
