Muhayrik al-Nadri

The full name of Muhayrik al-Nadri is reported in some sources as Abdullah (al-Husayn) b. al-Zubair b. Bata al-Nadri al-Israili. When he accepted Islam, the Prophet Muhammad gave him the name Abdullah. There are different opinions in the sources regarding the exact meaning and origin of the name "Muhayrik". There is a debate among Islamic scholars about whether Muhayrik was a Muslim. Some scholars consider him a companion based on his fighting alongside the Muslims at Uhud and bequeathing his wealth to the Prophet Muhammad. Others believe he was martyred while being a Jew. Muhayrik's wealth constituted one of the most important sources of assets for the Prophet Muhammad in Medina. Among these properties were many date palms and land in Medina. According to narrations, some of these properties later became known as the "Seven Gardens" and were inherited by Fatimah.
