Ihn (Yusra) Well

Ihn and Yusra refer to two different names used for the same well in some sources. Many settlements and agricultural developments had emerged around the wells during and after the time of the Prophet Muhammad in Medina; these wells formed the backbone of the city's water infrastructure. The wells of Medina are generally examined in two categories: The first includes the sacred wells where the Prophet Muhammad personally visited, drank water, performed ablution, or prayed (such as Gars, Eris, Rûme); the second includes other wells that served agricultural and urban water supply. Ihn (Yusra) Well can be evaluated in the second category. Underground water sources in the geography of Medina were of vital importance; especially the fertile oasis around Kubâ hosted numerous wells. The oldest source documenting the historical record of these wells is Ibn Zebâle's work, Ahbârü'l-Medîne.
