Hatim (Eris) Well

The Eris Well (Bi'rü Erîs) is a historical well located near the Kuba Mosque, named after a garden belonging to a Jewish family in the area. When the Prophet Muhammad visited the Kuba Mosque, he would stop by this well; he would sit, dangle his feet, drink from its water, and perform ablution. It is also reported that during these visits, he foretold that Hz. Abu Bakr, Hz. Umar, and Hz. Osman would be in paradise. Hz. Osman carried the silver ring that had been used as the caliphate seal since the Prophet, which was inscribed with 'Muhammedun Resûlullah'. One day in the year 30 AH (650-51 AD), while sitting by the well, the ring accidentally fell into the well. All the water from the well was drained, and a search lasting three days was conducted; however, the ring was never found again. Because of this incident, the well is also referred to as 'Bi'rü'l-Hâtem' (Seal Well). Today, the well is open for visitors, and they continue the tradition of visiting the Prophet's Kuba Mosque.
