Hadith written on the red plaque

The red plaque located in the Rawdah section of the Prophet's Mosque —that is, in the sacred area between the section of the Prophet's house that connects to the mosque and the pulpit— is an ornamental element that emphasizes the special status of this place. The hadith inscribed on the plaque reads: "The area between my house and my pulpit is one of the gardens of Paradise." (مَا بَيْنَ بَيْتِي وَمِنْبَرِي رَوْضَةٌ مِنْ رِيَاضِ الْجَنَّةِ) The choice of red is not coincidental. In Islamic art and architecture, colors are used to indicate regions and spaces. The red plaques in the Rawdah particularly draw visitors' attention to the red columns of the Rawdah and the boundaries of this privileged area. Since the Ottoman period, color-coded areas such as red columns, green section, and white section have been used in the Prophet's Mosque. This red plaque has also been engraved into the visual memory of the place as part of this tradition.
