MapHistory
The doors of the Prophet's Mosque have been systematically numbered during the modern expansion periods. Each gate takes its name from either a historical companion, a caliph, or a Saudi ruler. The Uhud Gate is named in reference to the Battle of Uhud, which took place near Medina in 625 AD.
