History

The gates of the Prophet's Mosque have been systematically numbered during modern expansion periods. Each gate takes its name from either a historical companion, a caliph, or a Saudi ruler. This gate bears the name of Abu Bakr al-Siddiq, the first caliph of Islam and the closest friend of the Prophet Muhammad. It holds special significance as it reminds us of the Prophet's command: 'Close all the gates leading to the mosque, except for Abu Bakr's.'
