Gate No. 12 (Sultan Abdulmecid Gate)

The gates of the Prophet's Mosque have been systematically numbered during modern expansion periods. Each gate takes its name from either a historical companion, a caliph, or a Saudi ruler. Sultan Abdulmecid Khan (1839-1861) is the sultan who carried out the most comprehensive Ottoman renovation works of the Prophet's Mosque. This gate preserves his legacy.
