Abu Salamah

Abu Salamah Abdullah b. Abdilesed al-Mahzumi (d. 4/625) is one of the earliest Muslims in Islamic history. He is the foster brother of the Prophet Muhammad; this close kinship made the relationship between him and the Messenger of Allah very special. After accepting Islam, he migrated first to Abyssinia and then to Medina. He faced great difficulties while trying to migrate to Medina with his wife Umm Salamah; he had to part from his wife and child on the way. This painful and patient story of their reunion after a long separation is one of the most touching narratives of early migration. In the month of Muharram in the 4th year of Hijra, the Prophet appointed him as the commander of the Khatfan Expedition. The expedition was successfully completed; however, the wound from Uhud reopened. Shortly after returning to Medina, he passed away. After Umm Salamah completed her waiting period, the Prophet married her.
