The place where the Battle of Yamama (Akrabah - Buzak) took place

Yamama is a vast area located in the central part of the Arabian Peninsula, around present-day Riyadh. After the death of the Prophet Muhammad (11 AH/632 AD), many Arab tribes turned away from Islam or refused to pay zakat. Musaylimah the Liar from the Hanifa tribe claimed prophethood and gathered a large following. Abu Bakr sent a strong army under the command of Khalid ibn al-Walid to suppress the apostasy movements. The battle that took place in the Akrabah Plain in Yamama was extremely fierce; the Muslims initially suffered a defeat, but they regrouped under the leadership of Khalid ibn al-Walid. Ultimately, Musaylimah the Liar was killed by the spear of Wahshi ibn Harb and the sword of Abu Dujanah. In this battle, seventy companions and many Quran memorizers were martyred. The large number of Quran memorizers who fell as martyrs prompted Umar to bring up the issue of compiling the Quran in written form; this concern laid the foundation for the first official Quran compilation work initiated by Abu Bakr.
