Mount Uhud

Mount Uhud is a basalt volcanic mountain that rises alone to the north of Medina. It is thought to have received this name due to its independent position from the surrounding mountain ranges. When viewed from Medina, the mountain has a dark reddish appearance, and its vegetation is quite poor. The Prophet Muhammad spoke of Uhud with deep affection. It is narrated that he said, 'Uhud loves us, and we love Uhud.' On one occasion, while looking at Uhud with Abu Zar al-Ghifari, he said: 'If I had as much gold as this mountain of Uhud, I would give it all away without leaving a single dinar for my debts after three days.' The Ayneyn Hill next to Mount Uhud forms the most critical point of the Battle of Uhud, known as the Hill of Archers. The Uhud Martyrdom site to the west of the mountain houses the graves of 70 martyrs. The Mihras area at the foot of the mountain corresponds to the point where the Prophet Muhammad was wounded. The Prophet Muhammad also said: 'Uhud is one of the mountains of Paradise.' This hadith reinforces the spiritual significance of the mountain.
