Do not insult the Companions, even if you spend like Mount Uhud

This hadith is narrated in Sahih Muslim under the title 'The Prohibition of Insulting the Companions.' The addressee of the Prophet Muhammad is Abu Sa'id al-Khudri or another Companion; however, the context of the issue is related to a community tension that arose in Medina before or after the Battle of Badr. According to the narration, a disagreement occurred between Khalid ibn al-Walid and Abdurrahman ibn Awf. Khalid exhibited a harsh attitude towards Abdurrahman in this disagreement. When the Prophet Muhammad heard this, he was deeply saddened and said: 'Do not insult my Companions! Even if you spend gold equal to Mount Uhud, you cannot surpass even a fraction or half of their worth.' The 'mudd' mentioned in this hadith is a unit of measurement weighing approximately 750 grams. The meaning conveyed by the Prophet Muhammad is this: The value of the Companions who fought in Badr or other early battles is so high in the sight of Allah that even if someone later spends gold equal to Mount Uhud, they cannot reach the value of even a tiny charity given by those Companions.
