Ushair Mosque and Battle

The Battle of Ushair (Battle of Zu'l-Ushair) is one of the first military operations organized by the Prophet Muhammad after his migration to Medina. In the month of Jumada al-Awwal in the year 2 AH (December 623 AD), the Prophet Muhammad set out from Medina with approximately 150-200 companions to intercept a large Quraysh caravan heading from Mecca to Syria, advancing as far as Ushair. However, the caravan had left before reaching Ushair; the Prophet was unable to catch up with it. The significance of this battle can be evaluated from several aspects: Firstly, it constitutes the first concrete step of the economic pressure strategy of the Islamic state. Secondly, the Prophet Muhammad made alliance agreements with the Juhayna and Mudlij tribes during this expedition; these agreements expanded the security umbrella of Medina. At the same time, this battle was also a preparation for the upcoming Battle of Badr. The caravan heading to Badr was the same as the one that had fled this time, and the Muslims attempted to cut off its return route. The Prophet Muhammad prayed at the Ushair location during this expedition; this point later began to be referred to as Ushair Mosque.
