Sacrifices were made at Musalla (Züreyki Path)

Musallaü'n-nahar is a large open area in Medina where Eid prayers, funeral prayers, and rain prayers are held. During the time of the Prophet Muhammad, this place was used when the Mosque of the Prophet was insufficient or when a larger attendance was desired. The connection of the act of sacrifice to this place is clearly mentioned in the sources. According to the narration from the Prophet's muezzin, Sa'd b. Âiz el-Karâz, the Prophet Muhammad would sacrifice his animals at Musalla or perform the act of sacrifice in a suitable area near Musalla. This information indicates that the act of sacrifice was not entirely a personal family matter during the time of the Prophet; it had a social worship aspect performed in conjunction with the community. After the Eid prayers were performed at Musalla, the sacrifice would also be carried out in the same place or nearby. This practice shows that the act of sacrifice was considered in an integrated structure with the Eid prayer, and the Prophet Muhammad emphasized both the symbolic unity of the worship and the practicality of distributing the meat by performing the sacrifice close to the area where the prayer was held.
