Mosque of Zubair ibn al-Awwam (Sadakat al-Zubair)

Zubair ibn al-Awwam (d. 36/656) was the cousin of the Prophet Muhammad and one of the prominent members of the ten who were given glad tidings of Paradise. Zubair, who was married to Asma, the daughter of Abu Bakr, left many charitable works in Medina. Ibn Zabale reports that the Prophet Muhammad prayed in the mosque that Zubair built in the Bani Muhammad neighborhood. The source of this narration is also associated with the narration of the light body, but the exact text is disputed. Zubair's construction of this mosque reflects the pre-Ottoman Islamic tradition of establishing mosques and charitable structures in different neighborhoods of Medina.
