Mosque of Salman: The mosque located at the site of the tent of Salman al-Farsi, who proposed the idea of digging a trench

Salman al-Farsi (d. c. 36/656) was a great Iranian companion who, before entering Islam, spent years searching for the true religion, transitioning from Zoroastrianism to Christianity, then to slavery, and finally reaching the presence of the Prophet Muhammad. The Prophet said about him, "Salman is one of us, from the People of the House." Before the Battle of the Trench (H. 5/M. 627), during a consultation held in Medina, Salman al-Farsi said: "O Messenger of Allah! When a great enemy force comes from Iran, we would dig a trench around the city." This suggestion was a defense tactic that the Arabs had never used before; the Prophet immediately adopted it and ordered the digging of the trench. The work of digging the trench was divided among the communities. The Prophet himself participated in the digging; when a rock came up, he struck the first blow. Salman al-Farsi put in great effort in digging the trench with his strong physique; both the emigrants and the helpers claimed him by saying, "Salman is one of us!" The Prophet responded to this competition by saying: "Salman is one of us, from the People of the House." The Mosque of Salman al-Farsi is located within the Seven Mosques, south of the Conquest Mosque. It is known that the mosque was repaired at various times during the Ayyubid, Mamluk, and Ottoman periods. Today, the Salman Mosque is one of the two mosques that still stand along with the Conquest Mosque; the others have been demolished and replaced with a new mosque.
