History

The Mosque of Ijaba is located in the Urayd area north of Baqi, near the old village of Muawiya b. Malik b. Awf's tribe. The most important narration about this mosque is as follows: The Prophet prayed and made a supplication here, asking Allah for three things. His prayer was: "O Allah! Do not destroy my Ummah with hunger. O Allah! Do not let enemies fall upon my Ummah. O Allah! Do not cause my Ummah to fight among themselves." The first two prayers were accepted: Muslims would not perish from a collective hunger, and external enemies would not completely annihilate them. However, the third prayer — internal conflict and division — was not accepted. Gabriel came and said: "Allah does not grant this third one; for there will be conflict among the believers." The Prophet was very saddened by this news. Based on this narration, the mosque was named "Ijaba" (acceptance, the acceptance of prayer). The sanctity of the place where the Prophet prayed and the construction of a mosque here is a common tradition from the era of the companions and successors.
