Beni Nadir (Fadih - Shams) Mosque Fadeekh بنو النضير ‎

The Battle of Beni Nadir took place on H. 4 Rabi' al-Awwal / M. August 625. The Beni Nadir tribe, which was part of the Medina agreement, was besieged after attempting to assassinate the Prophet Muhammad; after fifteen days, they were expelled from Medina with as much property as their camels could carry. They destroyed their own homes as they left. The Surah Al-Hashr, which narrates this event, was revealed during that time. During the siege, the Prophet Muhammad prayed in the surrounding gardens; this area became known as the Beni Nadir Mosque. At the same time, this point was named "Mosque of Shams" (Sun Mosque) because it was the first place where the sun rose and became visible. The most striking narration is related to the prohibition of alcohol: According to a narration from Jabir ibn Abdullah, during the siege of Beni Nadir, Abu Ayyub al-Ansari and a group of companions were present in this location. They had a drink made from dates called "Fadih". When the verse prohibiting alcohol — Surah Al-Ma'idah 5/90 — was revealed, the companions immediately poured out the Fadih they had in their hands, broke their containers, or destroyed them. This historical act of obedience became the subject of another name for the mosque, "Mosque of Fadih". The prohibition of alcohol in Islam occurred in four stages; this last verse announced the definitive and final prohibition. It is reported that the streets of Medina flowed with the alcohol that was poured out that day.
